Red Cardell

Red Cardell are a Breton Rock band formed in 1992. Its members include Jean-Pierre Riou, as singer and guitarist, Jean-Michel Moal on the accordion, Manu Masko on Drums, and since spring 2011, Mathieu Péquériau on Harmonica.

Biography

Red Cardell are one of the most famous bands from Brittany[1][2][3], France. Formed in Quimper, 18 years ago, they have recorded 12 albums[4] and played at nearly 2000 concerts all over Europe and North America, including famous festivals such as: Vieilles Charrues Festival, Eurockéennes, Nuits Européennes and Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France). They have also played in Germany, Ukraine[5], Italy, Finland, Belgium, USA and Canada[6].

They have performed with many British musicians, either on records or live. These artists include: Dave Pegg (Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention), Jimme O'Neill[7] (The Silencers) and Dr Das[8](Asian Dub Foundation).

Their music is a mix of Breton, slavic or North African music with Rock and French realistic song. Their last album, called Soleil Blanc [9] (2010) was recorded and mixed by the English producer Clive Martin[10] (who has worked with famous artists such as Queen, Sting, David Byrne) and co-produced by the French musician Stéfane Mellino, singer and guitarist of Les Négresses Vertes.

Spring 2011, Mathieu Péquériau on Harmonica, washboard & Percussions joined the trio for now form a quartet.
